Karachi: (Friday, May 25, 2012) The Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC), a joint platform of the religious and political parties recently formed after American strikes on the Salala check post, staged demonstration and rallies in Karachi
and part of Sindh Province today. Demanding the NATO supplies to remain shut, the DPC vowed to oppose the government with full strength if it decides to open up the route closed for past six months.
Addressing a rally in Karachi, the chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chapter Muhammad Hussain said that government had decided to open the NATO supplies against the will of the people. Threatening the government to stay away from
pursuing any such decision, he warned of strong protests and long march that would culminate in ending regime of the ruling lot.
Participants of the rally held placards and banners inscribed with anti-US slogans.
Speaking to the people, Mehanti said that the US had become a threat to Pakistan as well as entire region’s security. He said that it had already turned a peaceful Afghanistan into a battlefield, and wanted to do the same with
Pakistan.
Other cities in Sindh that observed massive rallies against a possible opening of Nato supplies included Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and Larkana where people turned up on the roads after Friday prayers.
Similar protests were also staged in Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab. The rally in Lahore was addressed by the founder of the defunct Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and the charity Jamaatud Dawa.
The leaders at these protests also expressed grave concerns at the Nato missing containers in Pakistan. They suspected that these containers full of arms were now in possession of criminals and were now being used in Karachi and
Balochistan by anti-social elements.
