LAHORE: Mashallah Shakari, the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, has said the potential Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline is of great geo-political value in the region as it is bound to bring energy revolution in Pakistan.
Mr Shakari further added that the pipeline will bring peace and harmony to the country and it will strengthen the bond between Pakistani and Iranian nation. The “gas transport” project, which has been in the
pipeline for some time now, is expected to settle gas and energy crisis in Pakistan. Speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Friday, the Iranian Ambassador concluded that the successful completion of this deal will promote social contact,
tourism and economy in both participating countries.
Iranian state has made all the necessary arrangements to transport gas from Iran to Pakistan at the Baluchistan border. A portion of the gas line has already been built near to the border and the amount of gas
to be transported will be adequate to overcome the demanding problems and facilitate the Pakistani nation, Mr Shakari said.
He said both countries have huge economical potential and that there is a need for better cooperation amongst the business communities. Exchange of business delegations could bring fruitful rewards for both nations.
He explained that Iran is willing to provide every technical or other assistance to Pakistan to overcome energy and debt crisis, it’s facing.
Me Shakari said that his country, Iran has made tremendous progress in every sector of economic growth, emphasizing on the fact that Iran can help Pakistan with its natural resources such as coal, water, gas, petroleum to overcome the electricity problems.
He said Iran and Pakistan could also launch joint ventures in coal energy, dairy farming and other sectors.
LCCI President Irfan Qaiser Sheikh was also present at the situation and he commented that both countries have large domestic markets and unique geo-strategic competitive advantage.
“I strongly believe we have a potential to increase our bilateral trade to S$5 billions by 2015.”, Mr Sheikh said.
