President Asif Ali Zardari expresses annoyance over Lyari turmoil
Saturday, May 26th, 2012 10:47:28 by Faisal FarooqExpressing annoyance over Lyari operation, President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday formed a three-member committee to investigate the violence and submit a report at the earliest.
The president issued the directives after a one-on-one meeting with Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP)-MNA Abdul Qadir Patel held at the Bilawal House. MNA Qadir Patel, Senator Yousuf Baloch and Senator Saeed Ghani will be members of the three-person probe committee.
The body will visit the affected areas including Lyari, Malir, Goth, Moach and other strongholds of the party where people staged demonstrations against the government and the PPP.
Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior Abdul Qadir Patel while speaking to the media said that the newly formed probe-body would hold meetings with the locals in order to find out the actual reasons of the Lyari operation.
After a thorough investigation, the report will be submitted to the president, he added.
He lashed out at Interior Minister Rehman Malik saying he had no idea about the actual situation of Lyari. The body will make efforts to comfort voters who still love their party and have trust in the leadership, the MNA added.
President Zardari expressed annoyance over the incidents of violence, asking CM Sindh to present him a detailed probe report soon on how the incidents took place and who all were responsible.
According to a press note issued by the Bilawal House, President Zardari condemned the brutal incidents, expressing deep sorrow with the bereaved families.
Issuing directives to take all necessary steps for maintaining law and order in the city, he said that strict action will be taken against the culprits involved in the firing incidents.
Later, a high-level meeting was held at the Chief Minister House with Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Rehman Malik in the chair.
The two leaders directed the authorities concerned to take stern action against the culprits involved in the firing incident on rally of the Awami Tehreek (AT).
Both the PPP leaders also issued directives to investigate the incident of bus firing which occurred in Shaheed Benazirabad.
