Which one is a better choice: Samsung Galaxy S III or iPhone 4S – Part 3

Both run different operating systems and have different platforms for applications. Apple has App Store and Google has Google Play to accommodate around 600,000 and 500,000 apps, respectively.

There are differences in stark contrast in both operating systems, tough for a novice they both might look the same with similar sliding home screen and same size of icons. However, both run at separate paces.

The 4S has the same old grid-like user interface that was found on the original iPhone. These icons are spread in a 4×4 grid and several home screens. It is very intuitive and is easier for a new user to switch from a JAVA or Symbian phone to a smartphone. Apps launch on single taps and home screen works as task manager if pressed twice.

In S III, the operating system is very attractive and much more customizable. You cannot tweak the UI if iOS but Android dwells on feature and has made it even easier in the new version. There are multiple home screens to add widgets on and all can be positioned on the screen’s real estate according to the user’s liking.

The one advantage that S III and its companion ICS has is the live widgets that can show information like weather on the home screen whereas, the user has to initiate the app like Weather or has to go to the notifications to see the reports. Even this was added in the 5.1.1 update released earlier this year.

Camera

iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S III use top-notch rear-view camera. Both have 8-mega pixel snappers that capture best quality pictures and videos. A close look however, shows some discerning features that make iPhone a better still camera and S III a better camcorder.

Both shoot 8-mega pixels worth of photos but iPhone has greater detail to its snaps. It induces more and natural colours, owing to the five lens-set and IPS+ technology. It gives more details to the pictures. Side-by-side comparison showed differences in details of same scenes in which 4S showed minute details that were absent in S III’s shots. The colours were washed out in S III as well as compared to iPhone.
