Mac Rumours: MacBook Pro and Air receive upgrades to shape and specifications
Monday, May 28th, 2012 6:51:11 by Usman KhalidMacBooks are Apple’s Flagship product since the late 90s. However, it is unfathomable why the product has not seen any substantial upgrades to its hardware or shape in the last two years. The only major reinforcements were done in this time were the new versions of Mac OS X.
However, after a long time, it is now becoming clear that the notebook category might see make over to its shape and hardware in addition to the new Mac OS X Mountain Lion, also expected to shore up at the WWDC.
Many rumours have suggested that the new line of MacBook Pro will be extra thin and the overall shape will also be tweaked a little bit. The track pad is expected to become larger as the new OS X thrives largely on multi-gestures.
Both MacBook Air and Pro will incorporate new processors from Intel. The semi-conductor manufacturers released the third generation Ivy Bridge processors a couple of months back. These CPU’s are more efficient and productive than the Sandy Bridge iteration we saw last year. Moreover, they have their own integrated GPU, HD4000 that works double the efficiency of HD1000, seen in Sandy Bridge.
The new MacBooks will lose optical drives to trim the depth in the chassis. This particular decision was expected of the company a long time ago. Air has been running a hot streak since its release in 2007 and it does not have an optical drive.
In other news, the MacBooks are also expected to receive a boost in the screen resolution, reaching the pinnacle of Retina Display on 13-, 14-, 15-, and 17-inch displays. There are telltales surrounding the 17-inch MacBook Pro that it will be discarded but if it shores up at the WWDC, it will have the same density as its other siblings.
However, the Retina Display is considered inversely proportional to the size of the device; the New iPad is a clear example on this matter.
All these are anything but confirmed reports; only WWDC can tell if these speculations hold substance to them.
