Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has put its weight behind the Supreme Court, announcing that it will file a petition against the ruling of Speaker National Assembly Fehmida Mirza regarding Prime Minister Gilani’s contempt case.

Speaking at a public gathering at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi, Imran Khan said big thieves are holding positions of power in the country, adding that Gilani has lost his moral position to remain the country’s chief executive.

He observed, “If the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP)’s government continues dishonoring the apex court order, we will march on Islamabad to establish the rule of law in the country”.

In an apparent confrontation between the judiciary and the executive, the cricketer-turned-politician vowed to second the former alleging the ruling PPP of violating the apex court verdicts to save the skin of President Asif Ali Zardari.

In his view, President Zardari was the reason of all ills in the country including inflation, power outages, unemployment and corruption.

Referring to failure of public sector corporations, he said that the reason behind rising inflation was losses accrued in the energy sector, Pakistan Railways (PR), Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).

He lamented that the federal government had failed to overcome the power crisis despite spending Rs 1000 billion in this regard.

Imran Khan, the self-confessed name of change, also expressed retreatment for people of Pakistan who had to pay for power theft by buying expensive electricity and promised to end price hike in the days to come.

After coming into power, the PTI would collect taxes from rich class in order to make the country a welfare state.

He noted, “This government has continuously been taxing the poor and middle classes to make up for the losses caused by corruption and mismanagement of the ruling elite”.

Imran Khan, who emerged as a third force after the Lahore rally, said that he  will focus on his clout with overseas Pakistanis and make efforts to convince them for investment in the country.

Quoting a survey results, he said the PTI’s popularity had risen to 33 percent in Punjab this year from three percent in 2008 while the PML-N popularity fell down to 41 percent from 80 percent.
