Britta Steffen and Fredrick Bousquet dominate swimming events- European LC Championships

Britta Steffen and Fredrick Bousquet dominated the playoffs of Women’s 50m freestyle and Men’s 50m freestyle respectively on last day of the 2012 European Long Course Championships in Hungary.

With her epic pace and perfect start, Steffen remained considerably ahead of her competitors throughout the one-lap freestyle discipline and she reached the finishing end with the timing of 24.37 seconds.

The gold medallist was followed by Hinkelien Schreuder, who stayed 0.41 seconds apart and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by submitting a time of 24.78 seconds.

Similarly, Schreuder enjoyed a benefit of 0.15 seconds over her subsequent swimmer, Nery-Mantey Niangkouara, who secured bronze medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 24.93 seconds.

Subsequently, Bousquet dominated Men’s equivalent event. He stayed one and a half stroke faster from his closest competitor and emerged on the finishing wall for gold medal with a wonderful timing of 21.80 seconds.

He was followed by Stefan Nystrand, who stayed just 0.24 seconds apart and clocked a superb effort of 22.04 seconds for silver medal.

Nystrand was chased by Andriy Govorov, who was only 0.14 seconds slower from overpowering his foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing wall for bronze medal with a nice time of 22.18 seconds.

Third event of the session was Women’s 50m breaststroke, where Petra Chocova served notice of her talent and earned gold medal of the discipline.

Chocova experienced strong resistance of her closest challenger throughout the discipline but with her irresistible efforts, she managed to reach the podium for gold medal with a phenomenal timing of 31.25 seconds.

The champion was followed by Sycerika McMahon of Ireland, who stayed just 0.02 seconds slower and clocked a time of 31.27 seconds for silver medal of the discipline.

The second position holder was chased by Caroline Ruhnau of Germany, who stayed 1.08 seconds behind and settled on the victory stand for third position by producing a time of 31.35 seconds.

Furthermore, the position holder received medal and accolades for their gruelling efforts at the medal ceremony of the championship.
