CAIRO: (Monday, May 28, 2012) The election committee of Egypt is going to meet today and to announce the results of the recently held polls, confirmed an official today. The announcement has come at a time when unofficial results
are already predicting a run-off between the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate and the last prime minister of Hosni Mubarak.
So far, counting for four candidates has been completed, including the leftist candidate Hamdeen Sabahy.
According to the rules of the game, if no candidate is able to secure at least 50 per cent of the votes, a run-off will take place between the top two.
Hatem Bagato, the secretary general of the electoral committee, while sharing that results for the first round of the elections will be announced today, said, “Today we announce the results of the first round of the presidential
election.”
Replying to a question regarding an expected run-off, he said, “That would be part of the result announcement we will make today.”
Mohamed Mursi, the candidate representing Brotherhood is expected to compete with Mubarak’s last Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq, who led the air force before joining politics.
