Washington: (Tuesday, May 29, 2012) Gen. Martin Dempsey, one of the top military advisors of President Barack Obama, said yesterday that Senate Lawmakers had made the right call by voting to trim the aid to Pakistan.
In an interview given to the NBC news channel, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff said, “Yeah, I support their – I think that choices should result in consequences. And I think the Senate acted appropriately”.
Dempsey said this while responding to a question regarding US senate’s decision last week to withdraw some funding for Pakistan as the country decided to convict Shakil Afridi, a doctor who helped CIA in finding and reaching to
Osama Bin Laden.
When asked if the relationships between Pakistan and America have ever been that low than they were right now, Gen. Dempsey’s reply was in negative.
He said, “Well, not in my experience. Of course, the things you just described continue to be a significant disappointment to us. But we’re trying to work through that. Pakistan is an important country in the region and globally.
And so we need to work through the relationships.”
