Islamabad: (Tuesday, May 29, 2012) Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, while chairing a meeting on law and order situation in Balochistan said that the current democratic regime has the commitment to address all the vows of the
people of the province.
Referring to Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Package, introduced back in November 2009, Gilani said that it marked the seriousness of his government towards Balochi people. Considering the present situation in Balochistan, and analyzing
the factors contributing towards the unrest of the largest province of Pakistan, the PM said that his government has envisaged 61 reforms proposals under four categories including Constitutional, Administrative, Political and Economic for the betterment of
the Baloch population.
He said that in order to dwell on to these reforms proposals, a deliberate attempt was made through establishing a committee under the chairmanship of Senator Mian Raza Rabbani. He said, “The Committee was mandated to analyze the
needs of the Balochistan Province and to undertake a threadbare review of the situation and to come up with practical recommendations to bring them in the national mainstream with a view to reduce their alienation and sense of deprivation.”
Talking about the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan package, the PM said that a major part of it is already implemented through the 18th constitutional amendment. Speaking of some major steps by his government, the PM said,
“Many cases of political workers not involved in heinous crimes were withdrawn by the Government and consequently a number of missing persons were reunited with their families.”
He further said, “The Army was withdrawn and replaced by Frontier Constabulary. Directions were issued to IG FC Balochistan to seek guidance/ instructions from the Chief Minister, Balochistan on the issue of internal security of
the Province.” Moreover, the PM also spoke of increasing the province’s share in NFC award and providing cash support to the IDPs.
Lamenting that Balochistan has been on a low priority of successive governments, Gilani said that his government was quite sensitive about the needs of the province, and was taking right steps to bring the development situation
of Balochistan at par. In result of all such steps, and cooperation from the political leadership and line departments working in the province, PM Gilani expected of addressing all the concerns of the people of the agonized province.
