Islamabad: (Tuesday, May 29, 2012) In a bid to achieve its otherwise over ambitious revenue collection, the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has started to make frantic efforts. In this regards, it has decided to not to give further
relaxation to the institutions that have been witnessing a laid back approach in filing their tax returns, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) being one of them.
According to the news sources, PTA has to clear an outstanding liability that amounts to Rs 3.6 billion. And in order to get all the income tax collected from the office, the FBR issued it a notice today while attaching all the
bank accounts details of the PTA for the amount it owed to the exchequer in income tax.
The PTA had been sent a recovery notice under Section 138 (10 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001) to deposit the outstanding liabilities latest by May 28, which the office failed to comply.
While attaching all the receipts of its accounts and receivables from Mobile Operators, Wireless Local Loop (WLL) operators, Long Distance & International (LDI) operators, Land Line (LL) operators and the Ministry of Information
Technology, the Chief Commissioner LTU Islamabad formed teams to recover the above stated amount from the PTA.
Meanwhile, Mobilink has agreed to pay its outstanding tax amount of Rs 2.5 billion (revised down from Rs 8 billion) by May 30, by availing FBR’s Tax Surcharge and Penalty Waiver Scheme. On this development, the issue has been resolved
amicably.
