Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo motivates team ahead of Monaco GP – Formula 1 news
Tuesday, May 29th, 2012 5:24:19 by Kashif KhanFerrari president Luca di Montezemolo has sent a message to his team in order to motivate them for the season.
Ferrari started slow as the 2012 car was not as competitive as other leading cars of the grid. The situation led to Ferrari technical director Pat Fry say that the team will struggle to secure podiums.
Ferrari since has been trying to update its car in order to remain competitive in the season. Fernando Alonso provided with a below par car still managed to eke out a win at the Malaysian Grand Prix in wet conditions.
Montezemolo at that also motivated the team by saying that Alonso has give the team a chance to come up with better performances. The letter he wrote to the team this time had similar views that Alonso has drove really well and his tie with Sebastian Vettel at the top of the drivers’ standings should be motivation enough for the team to grab on to the opportunity at hand.
“The Championship is in our own hands,” Montezemolo wrote in a letter to Ferrari staff. “The championship is very open and so far, there has not been one dominant force. A series of circumstances and the work done here to improve the car, as well as Alonso’s great ability, has led to us leading the Championship after five rounds. We must capitalize on that, with each one of us giving our very best at home and at the race track, including [Felipe] Massa who must bring home the results we expect from him.”
After the in season Mugello test Ferrari have managed to update their car and have shown improved pace and drivability. The improvement showed during the Spanish GP where Alonso came close to winning the Grand Prix but finished second to Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
The season has seen five different winners in five different races, which means that the standings are very open teams can perform well from this point to remain in contention for the Constructors title.
Red Bull, McLaren, Lotus and Ferrari are likely teams to finish in the top three while Mercedes, Sauber and recently Williams have shown that they have winning cars with drivers who have the ability to win races. The season has become one of the most competitive in recent history. Ferrari’s only concern at this point in the season would be the out of form and luck Felipe Massa, who has not been able to justify his place in the team so far.
It will be interesting to see how Ferrari go on from here as there is every possibility for them to have a go at the highest accolades of the sport.
