Ferrari technical director Pat Fry says F2012 will improve constantly – Formula 1 news
Tuesday, May 29th, 2012 5:26:12 by Kashif KhanFerrari technical director Pat Fry says that the car will be updated even further as the season goes on.
He explained that the F2012 is going to offer a lot more as a constant driver for updating the car is going to take place. Ferrari struggled to make an impact with the F2012 in the pre-season tests and after the opening race of the season, it seemed that the team was on its way to another disappointing season after 2011’s poor showing.
Pat Fry at that point mentioned that the car may find it hard to secure podiums. Yet thanks to their star driver Fernando Alonso the team managed to secure a Grand Prix win at Malaysia. Though weather conditions helped the car in Malaysia and in the following Grands Prix Alonso along with the disappointing Felipe Massa struggled to remain as competitive as the leaders of the grid.
After the in season Mugello test Ferrari came up with a major update package for the car and the results have been impressive. Alonso managed to finish second behind Williams Pastor Maldonado at the Spanish GP where he came close to winning.
Now that the car has shown promise Fry has said that Ferrari will keep on improving the car. “I think most of them (the updates) worked as expected,” Fry said. “There are a few things that we’re still looking at now trying to understand if they’re working to the right level. I think all of the bits added performance – some just a little bit less than we were expecting – so all in all I think everyone’s reasonably happy with the update we made. Obviously we’ve still got a long way to go; we’ve just got to keep on working at a similar rate.”
Monaco GP will be a good measure of how far Ferrari have come in order to remain competitive with their new package. It will also be crucial for the team to do well as Alonso is tied with Sebastian Vettel at the top of the table in the drivers’ championship. A win will provide the perfect boost that the team needs after struggling for the initial part of the season.
