Coralie Balmy and Katinka Hosszu win gold medals- European LC Championships

Coralie Balmy and Katinka Hosszu won gold medals of the Women’s 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly on final day of the 2012 European Long Course Championships in Hungary.

Balmy stayed just one stroke ahead of her following rival and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal with the timing 4 minutes and 05.31 seconds.

The champion was chased by Mireia Belmonte Garcia, who stayed only 0.14 seconds apart and reached the finishing blockade for second position with the timing of 4 minutes and 05.45 seconds.

The silver medallist was chased by Ophelie Cyrielle Etienne of France, who proved her eligibility for bronze medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 07.47 seconds.

After that, Hosszu proved her mettle for gold medal of the 200m butterfly. Hosszu stayed nearly half body length faster from her closest challenger and posted a time of 2 minutes and 07.28 seconds.

The gold medallist was trailed by her teammate, Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who was 0.58 seconds slower and reported a time of 2 minutes and 07.86 seconds.

The second position holder was chased by Martina Granstroem of Sweden, who stayed nearly two strokes slower from her preceding swimmer and settled on the finishing end for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.22 seconds.

Third event of the session was Women’s 50m freestyle, where Britta Steffen upset her challengers and clinched gold medal of the event.

Steffen gained a slight lead over her competitors and transpired on the finishing end for first position with an effort of 24.37 seconds.

The champion was followed by Hinkelien Schreuder, who stayed 0.41 seconds apart and hit the finishing end for silver medal with the timing of 24.78 seconds.

Third spot of the event was secured by Nery-Mantey Niangkouara, who remained 0.15 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and tapped the finishing blockade with an effort of 24.93 seconds.

Furthermore, the championship ended after the conclusion of all planned events while the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable efforts at the medal ceremony of the event.
