In 1965, many years after the end of World War II, Yad Vashem, the Israeli official body set up in memory of Holocaust victims, gave the medal to the depositary of the award made Righteous Among the Nations in recognition of its merits.

Beyond this point award, his heroic conduct during the Occupation was conveniently silenced by pro-Soviet authorities of Poland and the figure went completely unnoticed for decades for their own citizens … until in 1999 opened the play of young American
students.

Thereafter, his extraordinary exploits were widely and unwittingly acquired a notoriety that never before thought possible. The result of this, in November 2001 was treated to the Order Polonia Restituta, one of the highest decorations that delivers the
European country in October 2003 received the Order of White Eagle, the highest distinction granted Polish civilians as well as the military, the same year John Paul II wrote a letter of congratulations.

To cap off his career, in 2007 was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, which eventually went to the billionaire businessman and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, who that year was in vogue after the resounding success of the documentary A truth uncomfortable
. Shortly after the May 12, 2008, Irena died in Warsaw, the city that had been born 98 years ago and both gave all his life. Rest in peace.
