Lahore: (Wednesday, May 30, 2012) Irked by unending loadshedding, people in different cities across country took to the streets today.
In various cities, the protestors turned violent and set public property on fire. In a similar incident in Faisalabad, a mob attacked Civil Line office of FESCO. It broke the doors and windows of the office and caused great damage
to the equipment.
In Multan, the protests against loadshedding were led by traders who chanted slogans against the government and burnt tyres to block the traffic.
People also took to the streets in Kotli, Azad Kashmir. Besides traders who observed a complete shutter down in the city, the residents also recorded their discontent over inability of the government in meeting the basic public
needs like electricity.
Moved by increasing unrest in the city, the local administration ordered complete closure of all official and non official offices yesterday. According to the source, the preemptive measures were taken to keep the masses from burning
and damaging public property.
A protest against increasing loadshedding was also observed outside the Bannu Press club. During the protests, the citizen told the journalists that they were being deprived of electricity for at least 22 hours on daily basis.
