Intel and Orange running a big marketing campaign for their new phone
Thursday, May 31st, 2012 11:21:00 by Irfan KhokharThe European Telecom firms recently revealed the first "Intel Inside" smartphone, which is powered by Intel’s single-core Atom Z2460 processor and runs Google’s Android system.
All the manufacturing has been done by the Chinese firm Gigabyte, but it will be marketed under EE’s Orange brand. The unveiling of this set marks Intel’s entry into a market that is dominated by chips based on designs by British firm Arm Holdings.
The new Intel smartphone will go on sale on 6 June in the United Kingdom – where it will be called San Diego. Right after the release in UK, the phone will be released in France shortly. There has been no announcement as yet for other markets.
Intel’s country manager for the UK and Ireland Graham Palmer said, "This is part of our strategy to grow into what we refer to as adjacent markets, whether that be premium high performance smartphone products in the mature markets or lower cost solutions
in some of the emerging markets, and everything in between.
He further added, "Our intent is that all applications will run seamlessly on the Intel-based phone. A huge amount of effort has been put in already to make that completely transparent to consumers."
