Islamabad: (Wednesday, May 30, 2012) Moved by the country wide protests demanding an end to the prolonging loadshedding, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani here today directed the Ministry of Finance to urgently release Rs. 1.5
billion to WAPDA to settle the remaining claims of the Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
The Prime Minister took this decision while he was presiding over a meeting of Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) here to review progress on the private power projects and their future portfolio to increase power generation
to overcome electricity shortage in the country.
Moreover, in order to ensure smooth supply of oil and gas to the power producers, the prime minister directed the Ministery of Petroleum and Natural Resources to make arrangements for uninterrupted provision of natural gas to power
plants that were currently operational.
