Chromebox

The Samsung Chromebox is an entry-level CPU intended to do the tasks of a desktop, Windows-based PC. Though its lighter operating system helps a lot, there are enough compatibility issues with it that will make it a hard sell.

Google has towed the line of Apple’s iMac Mini that is a small box of Intel-based CPU and all the other stuff that can be found in an iMac but without the attached display.

The Chromebox can be attached to any monitor with the VGA- and HDMI-based ports. Moreover, it has DisplayPorts and USB ports to connect to any display device. The device can also be connected to HDTVs to turn it into a home-theatre-PC. Though the stand-alone computing is limited, the online content makes it up for Chromebook.

It lacks an optical drive, which is available in the iMac Mini. However, in the contemporary world, DVDs and Blu-Ray discs are limited to a specific category. Most of the content is already available online.

The box has a Celeron CPU clocked at 1.9 GHz with 4 GB of RAM and 16 GB of solid-state hard drive. WiFi and Ethernet ports are standard issues.

The limited storage capacity is another hurdle in the device is success. Though it is enough to store important media files and work documents, the sales will be hampered by the lack of big storage device.

Chromebook

Samsung’s next move in promoting Chrome OS is the laptop. The ultrathin device is very attractive as compared to other ultrabooks and notebooks. It has almost the same specs as Chromebox but it comes with a very attractive design.
