According to BBC Urdu service, China has urged Pakistan to take effective measures to control the activities of East Turkistan Islamic Movement (TIM) militants that are reportedly residing in Federally Administered Tribal Areas
(FATA).
According to the sources, Yang Jiechi, the Chinese Foreign Minister who is currently visiting Pakistan said that it was their belief that militants belonging to the TIM are influencing the Chinese province Xinjiang, which has a
Muslim majority population.
Xinjiang, a Muslim majority province, has lately witnessed increased terrorists activities which have ensued in inviting a crackdown by the Chinese forces. It is because of such terrorists activities that the restive province,
that share a border with Pakistan, has been under heavy security since July 2009 where the Uighurs have been reported to launch attacks on Han people in the regional capital.
On the conditions of anonymity, sources within Chinese Foreign Ministry shared that Chinese officials discussed the matter with Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari along with other officials during several meetings, where the Pakistani
foreign secretary was also present.
The BBC Urdu in its report mentioned that most of the militants belonging to the TIM have sought refuge in Pakistan’s tribal areas, where from they cross the border to China after receiving training.
