Lorna Tonks and Amini Fonua occupied gold medals of the 50m breaststroke in Women and Men’s category at the 2012 Oceania Swimming Championships.
Tonks remained prominently ahead of her opponents and cruised her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal by clocking a time of 31.66 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by her team-member, Jessica Hansen, who also secured her qualification spot of the discipline and ended her swim in second best place by posting a time of 33.13 seconds.
Hansen was chased by Pilar Shimizu of Guam, who remained 1.32 seconds slower and completed the podium by winning bronze medal of the discipline with an effort of 34.45 seconds.
Following that, Fonua dominated the Men’s equivalent event. With his impeccable pace, he touched the wall for gold medal with the timing of 28.80 seconds.
The champion was followed by Nikolas Pregelj of Australia, who stayed 0.49 seconds apart and settled on the victory stand for silver medal by submitting a time of 29.29 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Pregelj’s team-member, Nicholas Schafer, who stayed 0.45 seconds apart and earned bronze medal of the event by reporting a time of 29.74 seconds.
The third position holder was trailed by Matthew Glassford of New Zealand, who stayed 0.98 seconds slower and completed his swim in a time of 30.72 seconds for fourth position.
Third event of the session was Women’s 400m freestyle final, where Amy Levings showered her expertise for gold medal.
She continued her astounding efforts in the eight-lap discipline and ended her sprint in a time of 4 minutes and 16.50 seconds for the title of the event.
The gold medallist was followed by her team-member, Emily Seymour, who suffered a deficit of nearly sixteen seconds and reached the medal rostrum for silver medal by posting a time of 4 minutes and 32.12 seconds.
Third fastest spot of the event was secured by Lena Hayakawa of Hawaii, who was almost eight seconds apart and settled on the finishing wall for bronze medal with the timing of 4 minutes and 40.13 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all swimming events.
