Freddie Roach: Manny Pacquiao will prove he is still better than Floyd Mayweather
Friday, June 1st, 2012 4:36:05 by Imran Shaukat KhanManny Pacquiao’s ‘Hall of Fame’ trainer, Freddie Roach, is not worried at all about his man’s upcoming fight with the undefeated American prospect Timothy Bradley since he believes that Bradley is slow and can’t punch.
Pacquiao is currently rated as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world but many out there consider Floyd Mayweather as the pound-for-pound king, especially after Pacquiao’s last performance against Juan Manuel Marquez.
However, Roach is confident that the Filipino star will re-assert his claim to the title of pound-for-pound king on June 9 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“He has a lot of confidence and I think he knows he has something to prove because people are asking, ‘Is he all done?’ after the last fight, when we had a little bit of a poor performance,” Roach told ESPN. “That’s gonna get him a little more motivated, and he’s going to go out there and prove to the people he’s still the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.”
While expressing his thoughts over Bradley, Roach remarked that he doesn’t see any problem for his fighter.
“That muscle looks really good – but that’s all it is: he’s slow, he can’t punch… I don’t see any problems,” Roach said.
Many out there are of the view that Pacquiao will face trouble against Bradley because of his strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza, who left the Filipino’s camp early in order to work with Julio Cesar Chavez junior, who is set to defend his WBC middleweight title against Andy Lee on June 16.
Nevertheless, when Roach was asked about it he admitted that he was disappointed with Ariza’s decision but on the same note he revealed that it will not make any difference.
“I say it like it is: I thought it was a bad choice [from Ariza],” Roach said. “I’m not going to let Manny suffer because of something between me and Ariza, that won’t happen. It’s not an issue at all.”
