Huawei Ascend P1: Full Review – Part 1
Friday, June 1st, 2012 7:42:20 by Usman KhalidHuawei, the Chinese telecommunication company has launched a new handset, Ascend P1. The phone is powered with Android’s latest iteration, Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0.
The new smartphone is different in many respects. It is a welcome sign to the Chinese vendor for entering the premium handsets’ market. Until now, the company was known for good replacement phones but Ascend P1 is one good indication that Huawei is moving in the right direction.
The phone was first showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 where it stunned the audience with its specifications and operating system. Surprisingly, Ascend P1 was one the very few handsets that came out with ICS, where the experts had touted the OS will hoard the event.
With a powerful dual-core processor, and sleek and stylish premium design, the phone has many features that set it apart. However, make no mistake about its performance. Though it has an outstanding outlook, it has some flaws of its own, mainly related to the camera.
With WiFi and HSPA+ capabilities, the phone has the connectivity issue covered, but the unlocked version, which is the only version, has no room for compatibility with a dedicated carrier.
Design
The phone incorporates a unique and premium design and the premium quality is the cherry on the top. The phone has a black front with a Super-AMLED screen but the spine and backside are white, in extreme contrast, which is surprisingly very attractive to eyes.
Though the built quality is very strong and unibody structure gives a durable life to the handset, it has a shiny black that is slippery. With 5.1 inches in length, the slippery back gives loose grip to the phone.
At 5.1-inch length and 2.6-inch width, the phone is taller for a 4.3-inch screen handset. However, at 0.3-inch breadth, it joins the elite club of the slimmest handsets in the world. At 3.9 ounces, it is even lighter. The backside has a little bulge to make room for the camera.
