Asjad Iqbal beats Muhammad Asif to lift 2012 NBP Ranking Snooker event
Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 5:42:05 by Zeeshan GoharAfter putting up an outstanding snooker show at the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Creek Club Billiards Hall, the unseeded Asjad Iqbal toppled down the top seed Muhammad Asif of Punjab by the score line of 7-4 in the final encounter of the 2012 National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Ranking Snooker event.
The first session of the game was totally dominated by the Punjabi potter, Iqbal as he cruised into four frame victories to clinch an early lead of 4-0 to firm his grip on the game. Asif came back strong and got the first break through taking the fifth and sixth frame. However, Asjad once again returned with vengeance to extend his frame lead to five frames to two.
Nevertheless, Asjad showed tremendous potting clinching the next two frames to win the contest by the score line of 7-4. The detailed frame score line of the match was: 83-33, 76-31, 84-41(51), 72-51, 42-65, 31-76, 93-01(52), 49-77, 26-89, 73-22, 93-0(59).
At the presentation ceremony, SVP National Bank, Qamar Hussain, who was the chief guest, handed over the trophy and cash purse of Rs.70,000 to Asjad Iqbal and cash prize of Rs.35,000 to runner-up Asif.Chief of NBP Sports Division Iqbal Qasim and officials of Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association were also present on the occasion.
Speaking to the media after his victory, Asjad said, “It’s definitely a big win for me as Asif is far better cueists than me. My dream is to equal the feats of Yousuf at the national and international level. I wanted to get into the footstep of Yousuf to win the Asian and world titles.”
