Facebook Smartphone: How should it be a success and resolve all of company’s problems? – Part 2
Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 2:16:58 by Usman KhalidHowever, this strategy is not without a pun, operating system or app, Facebook needs to find an appropriate place to present those valuable adverts that will ultimately help in keeping the machine running.
What Zuckerberg and his team of technicians, both hardware and software, are ignoring is the fact that users do not like ads on Facebook. There are many Facebookers who have categorically disliked advertisements on desktop web pages, let alone mobile apps. However, they are there on web pages.
So the main problem for Zuckerberg is to plan a way to place the advertisements on a much smaller screen without bringing up the users’ ire. There are many ways I am sure the CEO will find out.
However, what most of us are ignoring is the fact that on a Facebook smartphone, Facebook will not be an app but an operating system. Therefore, for every app installed, comes a fee to the social network’s bank account. Third-party app manufacturer’s will have to pay royalty fee to Facebook for the installation and use of the app on the mobile platform. Zynga, for instance, is going to pay its presence on the Facebook smartphone.
So, there will not be just one app that will rush toward Facebook smartphone, there will be many. But why should they do that, when Android and iOS hold the better part of smartphone market. This is where Zuckerberg has to bring forth a very intuitive operating system, much like iOS, and a very attractive handset like Lumias and SIIIs.
The 28-year-old has done some work in this regard. He has hired a slew of software and hardware engineers from Apple and Android to assist him in making of the smartphone. Moreover, he has also bought the hottest running mobile-based photo-album app makers called Instagram. The company was Facebook’s biggest competitor and now is a part of their corporate portfolio. This is how he has killed the competition in mobile computing.
With all of these ideas and proceedings toward realizing them, Facebook has a big project at their hands but will they be able to pull it off or will it have the same fate as the May 18 IPO?
