Lahore: (Friday, June 01, 2012) Irked by the unending loadshedding, masses in several cities across the country decided to take to the street to protest against the government’s inability in meeting out even basic of the people’s needs.
The major cities where demonstrations erupted today included Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Thatta.
In the protest in Multan, the angry protestors burnt effigies of the public officials and the politicians and blocked the roads by setting tyres on fire.
Recording their protests in a similar fashion, the citizens of Dera Ghazi Khan protested at Gadai Road, while in Sheikhupura, the protestors blocked Lahore Road by burning tyres and suspended traffic.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, suffering from similar misery, Residents of Dir Bala, who have been doing without electricity since Thursday, recorded their protests. Commenting on the sustained power outage, the WAPDA officials told that the outage was due to a technical fault in the grid station.
The residents of Thatta and the adjoining areas also recorded their protests against the prolonged electricity outages. Sindh, although is facing comparatively less loadshedding, but due to a technical problem in the Larkana grid station, it caught fire, resulting in suspended electricity supply to the people. Though the repair work is going underway, but the local people are facing problems since Thursday.
With the protests becoming less effective day by day, the protestors have started to turn violent. In Faisalabad, two factory workers were reported sustain injuries while protesting against prolonged electricity outages.
The agitated workers forcefully closed the petrol pumps and other shops of the area. They also damaged the public property, looted the shops and damaged the furniture.
