New Xbox 360 application expected from Microsoft at E3 Game Conference

Microsoft Corporation is buckling up for the E3 Game Conference this Monday in California, USA. The company has a new application named Smart Glass for Xbox in the line-up that will allow other devices like tablets and smartphones to stream videos and other content.

Most of the company’s plans are kept under the veil of secrecy but this news has broken before the event officially starts at Los Angeles Convention Center. The app is touted to be AirPlay lookalike. Apple officially launched AirPlay with iOS 5 that enables iOS devices to stream videos and music on televisions via Apple TV.

Though the Xbox will serve as the junction for all the content to stream, the Windows-makers have broaden the horizon for the app’s utility. Smart Glass will be compatible with Android, iOS, Windows OS and Windows Phone OS.

Microsoft has covered almost all the major platforms that are in use globally, at least the leading operating systems that are used in mobile devices like tablets and smartphones.

Smart Glass will not only allow mobile devices to stream content on bigger screens, HDTVs and projectors, but will also let Xbox to return the favour by allowing access to content on these devices.

Additionally, the company is in the process of buying URLs like Microsoftsmartglass.com and xboxsmartglass.net to make the system less redundant and much less ambiguous. All these platforms will be connected to one single server to operate the online service for Smart Glass.

There has been no confirmation on its availability, neither has the company unveiled its price. The best guess is that the app will be available on internet via App Store, Google Play, Marketplace and other third-party sources for Windows (desktop OS).

What will it cost and what are the details of functionality will only be available at the E3 conference in Los Angeles on Monday, should the company want to unveil it on the first day of the event.
