Trends for Social Media Marketing in Pakistan
Tuesday, June 5th, 2012 10:04:56 by Areeb KhanAs in the case with most trends and staying up to date for Pakistani companies, it is safe to say that Social Media Marketing hasn’t really kicked off in Pakistan, despite the efforts being put in, the responses that the companies are getting for their efforts
are rather limited.
Most of the telecom industries are already looking to try and pursue SMM, in order to try and create a friendly appeal and a homely feeling with their customers. Despite these efforts, the response that they have been looking for, just hasn’t been coming
in.
Taking Telenor and Mobilink as our examples, these companies have gone on to set up Facebook and Twitter pages, which they constantly update.
However, as is the case with Facebook, the pages that companies create here, just don’t seem to appeal to customers as much as they should and the end of the day they have turned into pages, where people come on and just try and interact with each other,
while losing the meaning of the page.
They might be doing it on the page for those companies but down the line, they forget why they were there and just what is going on.
On the other hand, the Twitter pages seem to be more to the point. They have constant updates for any new developments that are taking place and at the same time, they also look to create trends and ask probing questions to get their audience interacting
with them.
However, what really sets them on par and gives them a boost to companies not using social media as a vessel for doing business, is the fact that they respond to customer questions online.
They get asked question, which range from how to check your credit or how to get the latest bundle package. Even though this can be done by visiting the website or calling the help line, they still look to provide this service here, which makes the customers
feel wanted and gives them a very satisfactory feeling towards the organization.
Nonetheless, their efforts aren’t up to the standards that they would want, due to the lack of techsavy customers that are present in the country.
On an average, they have around five thousand people on their Twitter and thirty thousand on their facebook pages. Given the variable reach on both these websites, these numbers are rather poor for these companies.
As a result, even if more companies try and get on board with the idea, they won’t really be able to go on and get the results that they want, due to the constraints that their target audience face.
With some technological advancements and improvements in standards of living in the country, Social Media Marketing could potentially take off and meet up with the international standards that have been set across the world.
