Sony releases a new steering wheel, extension to PlayStation Move
Tuesday, June 5th, 2012 6:17:34 by Usman KhalidSony Entertainment launched a new controller for PlayStation 3 at E3 seminar this Tuesday, June 5. The new device is the extension of PlayStation Move design as a steering wheel, only it does not look like one.
The PlayStation Move is nestled in the middle of the new device. The new steering wheel is multi-purpose and can be used for manoeuvring cars in games like Need For Speed. It also can be reshaped as a motorcycle steering handle by unfolding the handles on either side to play Moto GP games. The right-side handle will also be acting as the throttle for bikes.
There are the standard PlayStation controls on the wheel that can also be used to control other actions in the games. The Move in the middle serves as the transmitter of the gestures that the user will be uttering during the game.
The new device includes the standard vibrator that can be found in other PlayStation controllers. It also has paddle shifter, should the gamer want to drive automobiles and bikes in manual transmission.
The new device did not make a loud shout at the event and was buried under the hoard of other games and peripherals announced by Sony and other major players at the event.
The peripheral will work with PlayStation 3 on select-few games. Supported games include “Little Big Planet Karting, Gran Turismo 5, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, BurnOut Paradise, MotorStorm Apocalypse, and more,” according to a Sony representative.
In other news, the company also launched a new game called Wonderbook, which is the creation by the faculties of Sony and Harry Potter creator JK Rowling. In addition, Sony also extended hand to invite Android to the gaming world. Android-based Sony smartphones will serve as peripherals to PlayStation games.
