Mazda Miata PRHT Touring/Grand Touring/Special Edition (2012): Full Review – Part 3
Thursday, June 7th, 2012 5:33:53 by Usman KhalidThe stick-shift manual transmission gear box is responsive but not as much as the previous iterations from the company. The gears are crammed very close to each other, so expect a hand permanently on the shifter in city drives. The RPM in smooth and steady 65 miles per hour reaches 3500 revs per min which is a roar but the quiet innards do the justice in bringing the noise down.
According to Environment Protection Agency, the car averages 21 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on straight highways, which was close to the average of 24 mpg calculated after rigorous testing that included drags and drifts.
The cabin tech, as mentioned before, is a disappointment. Alongside a navigation system and voice command system, the basic features like Bluetooth connectivity and phonebook sync are missing, even in the optional packages.
An Aux cable connector is given to the users to connect iPhones and iPods but that does not the justification to a complete connection and sync to car’s system. The audio system, though has a seven-speaker premium sound system from Bose is pre-installed.
You can connect your phone to the monochromatic stereo system via Bluetooth for voice calling but the basic A2DP functionality is missing.
Conclusion
The trim level Miata Touring is all yours for $27,540. The Grand Touring gets a bump to $28,950. Add in $640 for the sports suspension package and $1390 for the premium package to $795 as destination charges to get the bundle at your door step. The whole thing is available as standard in the Special Edition for $32,020 plus a premium paint job. Moreover, the automatic transmission system is available for $1,100. If you skip the hard top option, that will save you around $1700, but your ear drums will complain a lot.
