Inthanon Ratchanok, the top shuttler of Thailand, showed her impressive craft in front of her home fans and secured her berth in Women’s Singles quarter-final after defeating China’s Xue Yao in pre-quarter-final match at the 2012 Thailand Open GP Gold in
Bangkok, on Thursday, June 7.
Ratchanok, who is World Number 11 and second seeded shuttler in Women’s Singles draw of the championship, worked hard in the court to chuck out her stubborn Chinese opponent with a tight score.
The in-form Ratchanok had to play to her full potential in the game and managed to win the match in straight games by taking 42 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Chinese put up wonderful show and troubled her rival throughout the match but remained unlucky in ending points and lost to her local rival in straight sets with a respectable margin.
Both females were focused and composed in the opening game as they played to their maximum potential and remained close on the score board at the initial stage.
However, Ratchanok took over the control by accelerating her speed and also employed her experience to take a comfortable lead of 11-7 until the one-minute interval.
After the one-minute break, she continued her dominating performance against her Chinese challenger and did not let her to fight back in the game.
The impressive Ratchanok proved too strong for the Chinese shuttler in the concluding phase of opening set and won it with a three-point margin of 21-18.
In the following set, Xue showed her aggression in the court this time and managed to set up an early lead over her Thai rival.
Chinese shuttler remained in complete control this time and managed to establish a remarkable lead of 11-5 until the break.
Ratchanok changed her strategy after the break by gearing up her speed and started to narrow the game. She put up sensational show of attacking badminton and ended the gap by reaching at 13-13.
Both shuttlers remained close in the ending phase but it was Ratchanok who utilised her experience and wrapped up the set with a dramatic score of 24-22.
The aggressive Ratchanok made her home crowd happy by winning the pre-quarter-final battle with a margin of 21-18 and 24-22.
