Lewis Hamilton says he will wait until the end of 2012 to decide his future
Friday, June 8th, 2012 6:06:34 by Kashif KhanLewis Hamilton says that he will wait until the end of the season to make a decision about his future.
Hamilton’s contract with McLaren expires at the end of 2012 and it is being speculated that the Brit might look into changing his team as quite a few teams possibly will be looking for a driver. Teams Like Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari are possible choices.
Hamilton has not had the best of seasons so far after a disappointing 2011 season. The major difference between this year and the previous one is that this season the Brit has been somewhat let down by his team which has cost Hamilton possible podium finishes.
Just a fortnight ago McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale said that he is confident that Hamilton will stay on with McLaren. He is more at home here than anywhere else, the team understands him well and he the team better suits him in the longer term more than any other team.
“I have not even decided to think about it yet,” Hamilton said. “I’m just trying to get my first win of the season – that’s the most important thing at the moment.”
“I haven’t even discussed it. I think it’s just because I underestimated how difficult the season was going to be, I underestimated about how busy I’d be, and I also realise how unimportant it is at the moment. The championship’s more important than what I plan to do with my next contract,” he added.
Regarding the current season Hamilton said that he was confident ahead of the Canadian GP. He said that he is not sure who will win the race as there have been six different winners of the six races completed so far. He said anyone can win the 7th Grand Prix and even Marussia could win. He said that the teams this season have been very competitive and he will definitely be challenged in Canada but he is confident that he can do well.
It will be interesting to see how Hamilton fares at Montreal. The race is scheduled to be held on June 10, 2012.
