Panasonic TC-PVT50 (2012): Full Review – Part 1
Friday, June 8th, 2012 6:17:50 by Usman KhalidPanasonic launched a new television, Panasonic TC-PVT50, in two versions, 65 inches and 55 inches. The hardware of both iterations is the same from processors to the chassis, therefore, the working is identical, according to the company.
The new model uses the plasma technology to generate a quality picture and as it does not have an LED backlight source, the blacks are deeper than the normal LCD TVs. In fact, the blacks in this new television are deeper and more black than any other TV released this year.
The VT50 is different from others, even its siblings ST50 and GT50 in many ways. It is the flagship model for the Japanese vendors this year. Incorporating some of the top-notch components and a very smooth and simple software, it is one outclass piece of electronic that has shore up in the market so far.
At the time when OLED televisions are on the verge of release and many others with the likes of Sharp and Samsung are about to release their top TV sets, Panasonic’s stunt of unleashing a plasma set that is priced in the neighbourhood of $3200 is a little risky.
On the downside, the new television has a substandard 3D quality for a premium price. There is crosstalk observed in viewing stereoscopic three-dimensional content. Moreover, the company does not ship any 3D glass with the package.
The quality of the new television makes it the best choice in the market, glasses or no glasses. Moreover, there is not much 3D content available in the market to dwell on and the VT50 uses the same the active 3D technology as Samsung’s. Therefore, the $20 Samsung Active Shutter glasses work fine for Panasonic’s and if you already own a Samsung television or are replacing it with the Panasonic, you are in luck.
