President Zardari urges China for investment in energy sector

The Pakistani president held a meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao on the sidelines of the SCO summit, discussing the whole gamut of bilateral relations to the recent developments taking place at the regional and international level.
According to presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar, President Zardari besides articulating Pakistan’s position on various issues of interest to the region and the world sought Chinese assistance in overcoming the energy crisis.
President Zardari observed, “The bonds of Pak-China friendship were beyond the confines of time limits and the legacy of this friendship would continue to pass on from generation to generation”.
While extending invitation to Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping to visit Pakistan, the Pakistani president said that people of Pakistan greatly value the unparalleled friendship with China and appreciate in big way their assistance at every hour of suffering.
Islamabad wanted to transform its traditional equation with China into economic affairs and wanted to learn from the Chinese experience of growth and progress.
He asserted, “We will continue to make determined efforts to keep the resumed dialogue process with India going in right direction”.
The presidential spokesperson quoted the president as saying that the government was interested to see Chinese investors and business community playing active role in the socio-economic development of the country.
Expressing pleasures on some key developments taking place between the two neighboring states, President Zardari said the joint ventures like the currency swap agreement, the implementation of 2nd Trade and Economic Programme, opening of Chinese banks in Pakistan and two countries entering into understandings to extend cooperation in the areas of agriculture, irrigation, infrastructure and development will assist Pakistan in strengthening economy.
Commenting on regional situation, Zardari stated that Pakistan was taking all possible measures to play its role in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan.
He depicted beginning of the China-Pakistan-Afghanistan tripartite dialogue an important development for the peace, stability and development of the region.
