Toshiba Satellite U845W: A new ultrabook with a different shape – Part 1
Friday, June 8th, 2012 6:18:20 by Usman KhalidToshiba rolled out a new ultrabook, Satellite U845W, out its factory doors that is quite different from the likes of others. Since mid-2011, the computer market has been hoarded by a slew of ultrabooks that either look like MacBook Air or look like each other. That is not the case with U845W.
The new ultrabook is different from the rest of the competition, even from its own Toshiba bloodline, in many ways. The laptop sports an ultra wide screen display that has been enriched with pixels to not only to give a wider and more comfortable but a sharp display as well.
The new device has a 14.4-inch super-wide screen display that is architected at 21:9 or 2.35:1 ratio. This makes for movie-watching and easy multi-tasking. The native resolution is clocked at 1,792×768, 426 pixels wider than the average laptop display. A normal wide screen laptop undoubtedly can have 720p resolution but the width is fixed at 16:9 ratio. Note that the height of the screen in U845W has been kept intact at 768 pixels, very often found in normal wide screen laptops.
This new iteration in the Satellite line of ultrabooks comes equipped with third-generation Intel Ivy Bridge Core i-series processor that is supported by internal memory up to 8 GB. The storage capacity is available in two options. Due to the fact that the laptop has a wider footprint, the company has managed to installed either 500 GB spindle-based hybrid hard drive with 32 GB flash memory or 256 GB SSD. Both the RAM and storage capacity are not very often seen in a registered Ultrabook but Toshiba has managed to do so in a very attractive way.
That said, there is one imperative question that comes to mind, will this new ultrabook be of any good to the users?
