Kabul: (Monday, June 11, 2012) The Afghan Interior Minister has claimed killing 33 Taliban insurgents in past 24 hours in various military operations. As per the details, the operations were jointly carried out by the Afghan forces
and the NATO-led coalition troops.
In a statement, the ministry said yesterday, “Afghan police, army and coalition forces launched 10 joint cleanup operations in Kabul, Laghman, Parwan, Helmand, Uruzgan and Farah provinces, killing 33 armed Taliban insurgents over
the past 24 hours.”
The respective operations, conducted by the joint forces, also culminated in injuring six insurgents while capturing nine other suspects.
The statement further stated that the joint forces also found and seized weapons; however, it did not deliberate on sharing whether causalities were also incurred on part of the security forces.
Telling details of a similar operation, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, the spokesman for provincial government said that in a similar operation by the special operation forces of army and the coalition troops in Bati Kot district of eastern
Nangarhar province on Saturday night, eight more Taliban were killed.
In another development, four other militants were killed as an anti-tank mine went off prematurely in Jani Khil district of Pakitka province, revealed the ministry of interior’s statement.
As the time for withdrawal of the NATO led coalition troops approaches, the Afghan forces along with the NATO soldiers have intensified the cleanup operations against insurgents.
