E3 2012: Has it lost the magic or should we wait for next year’s version to see something new? – Part 2
Monday, June 11th, 2012 5:13:44 by Usman KhalidNintendoland was touted the next big thing but it only incorporates the most popular heroes from the past under the same room, which might be exciting for children but adults … I don’t think so.
On the other hand was Sony who released a new platform called PlayStation Mobile. The company is already busy in positioning its PlayStation Vita as both portable and auxiliary device, and here comes a new concept to confuse the gamers more. PlayStation Mobile takes use of the Android-based mobile devices like Tablets and Smartphones to play PlayStation games.
Sony smartphone and tables along with those of HTC have already pooled in the new concept. However, Vita was ignored in the whole event like a step-son.
Then came the Wonderbook presentation. The company launched a new game called WonderBook: The Book of Spells, conceived by JK Rowling, the author of Harry Potter series.
Though the concept behind the game was very exciting, the presentation was the same boring and confusing. What is the purpose of the new game and why should someone pay around $40 to buy the Blu-Ray and the Wonderbook.
To top the already ‘interesting’ presentation, CBSi photographer James Martin posted a picture of the Ice Cream Sandwich he ate the previous night on Twitter. Yes, he did that just to evidence his interest in the new game and presentation. Everybody was as dumbfounded at the event as James.
Xbox released a new concept/application/software, or whatever category it falls in, called Xbox SmartGlass. As much as the name is ambiguous, the utility is not far. SmartGlass is a mirroring software that will allow the games from Xbox to the streamed directly to mobile tablets, be it iOS or Android-powered.
To be honest, the launch of Kinnect last year was more exciting than the SmartGlass and all other gismos at the event put together.
