Will summon army chief in Balochistan case: Chief Justice
Monday, June 11th, 2012 2:51:17 by Faisal FarooqChief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry while expressing displeasure over the press conference of Inspector General Frontier Corps said that he would summon Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani over the issue.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry resumed the hearing into a case pertaining to law and order situation and enforced abductions in the province.
He noted, “We will summon Gen Kayani and ask is country could be ruled like this. Time has come to summon a bigwig. We will summon Kayani and ask what he could do”.
He further stated that every other case was filed against the FC and that corpses come out of those who provide evidence against them. He said he wanted to know what the role of the constitutional government was.
He said, “The people who provide evidence against Frontier Corps (FC) are killed; now the time has come that we must call any higher authority”.
He raised question why Ubaidullah Khattak, the chief of frontier corps, held press conference in army uniform.
He was of the opinion that how one could blame external forces for worsening the law and order situation in Balochistan in the absence of any evidence, saying that the incumbent should take notice if foreign agencies were operating in the region.
It is vital to highlight here that FC chief Major Gen Ubaidullah Khan Khattak had held a press conference shortly after appearing before the apex court and had claimed that 21 foreign agencies were operating in Balochistan.
During the proceedings Justice Jawad S. Khawaja said it had been that 385 incidents took place but no one had been apprehended for all this up till now.
He commented, “We are not agencies’ enemy neither they are ours. We are ready to appreciate but appreciable work must be done”.
Attorney General on this occasion said that had there been no efforts the situation would have further deteriorated and added that 23 missing persons have been recovered.

“The chief justice further added that the situation in Balochistan has already been unstable, while the IG FC is giving a press conference which is contrary to the court orders. He questioned if the IG FC is looking forward to a confrontation with the court” Observations made by honourabe apex court are correct. But respectable CJ has to keep in mind that military brass since long enjoying unlimited freedom in its sphere. To put a stop might require lot of time. Let us see and hope COAS presents himself and offers some thing concrete for the satisfction of the court. Apparantly to me it looks a very remote possibility but one should always hope for the best.
honestly don’t know what people above want from Judiciary. If judiciary clamps down, they are called aggressors. If they let it go, they are accused of being an accomplice in human right violations.
