Retina Display now arrives in MacBook Pro (2012), another nightmare for the rest – Part 1
Tuesday, June 12th, 2012 5:50:34 by Usman KhalidFirst it was the iPhone, then two years later came the new iPad and now the MacBook Pro, the most unlikely device to embrace Apple’s signature Retina Display. Only the iPhone was a big hurdle of the international competition to come at par with, and not the notebooks are also receiving RD icing.
Apple recently released the new MacBook Pro line of their beloved notebooks and the belated launch rolled out with a bang. Among other intimidating features to the competitors from all across the globe, the new MacBook has an astounding display augmented with the moniker of Retina Display. Apple has increased the pixel density to more than five million pixels on a real estate that spans 15.4 inches diagonally in a resolution of 2880×1800.
Clearly, the Cupertino giants have reached the pinnacle of display technology that now engulfs the notebook segment as well. To date, the recorded maximum resolution in a laptop has been 1920×1080 full HD, usually seen in gaming laptops. However, the new device has surpassed the 1080p resolution with sheer domination. The HD resolution now is a tiny spec in the rear mirror.
Retina Display is a trademark technology from Apple that to date was only used in iOS devices, iPad entering the elite club in March. However, the new MacBook Pro 2012 brings a slew of new devices into the fold as well. As experts put it, MacBook Pro is just the start of Retina Display in Mac devices.
Soon iMac, Mac Pro (with capabilities of Retina Display) and MacBook Air will follow the suit and soon Retina Display will adorn every Apple device, regardless of the operating system. There is no doubt in the fact that RD is going to become a standard in Apple devices.
On the other hand, rest of the competition is yet to reach the bench mark of 330 pixels in smartphones, 250 ppi in tablets and 220 ppi in laptops.
