Retina Display now arrives in MacBook Pro (2012), another nightmare for the rest – Part 2
Tuesday, June 12th, 2012 5:50:29 by Usman KhalidThe new Pro though sacrifices some of the features in the new version. Gone is the 16:9 HD screen ratio, and an optical drive. Apple has it in its genes to speculate the future in electronics, be it personal computing, entertainment or mobile computing.
The company shaved off the optical drive first in the MacBook Air, which was a bold move on Apple’s part, considering it was done in 2007. However, the speculation proved right as DVDs and Blu-Rays are now only limited to dedicated players and gaming consoles for most of its productivity.
It is a fact that everything is available on the internet and most of the companies now prefer to sell their software products online, instead of CDs and DVDs that ultimately have to be shipped.
Wide screens used to be the major selling point for Apple but the new the device has simple rid the 16:9 ratio for the broader 16:10. However, that is no big deal in a big 15.4-inch screen that has a better resolution, less glare and quicker frames per second rate.
The new display uses IPS technology to deliver natural colours, a flat panel LED display and 75 percent less glare, although the screen is glossy.
Moreover, the company did not rely solely on the in-built Intel graphics card, HD4000, to provide the juice for 5 million pixels, but NVIDIA graphics card has been installed as well, as a dedicated GPU. It is the first time that Apple has included an NVIDIA chip in its laptops.
The Retina Display is a good thing on Apple’s credit. However, it will take some time for every application to take advantage of the resolution.
