Islamabad: (Wednesday, June 13, 2012) Pursuing with the dual nationality case, the Supreme Court has suspended membership of two Punjab MPAs and one MPA from Sindh.
From the Punjab provincial assembly, the members to lose their membership included Muhammad Akhlaq and Amina Buttar, while Ahmed Ali Shah was the one to be suspended from Sindh Assembly membership.
Headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, a three member bench announced the decision while resuming hearing on dual nationality case today.
During proceedings of the case, the allegations of dual nationality against MNAs Anushey Rehman, Khawaja Asif and Iftikhar Nazeer were withdrawn.
The bench also raised several questions on the British citizenship of Rehman Malik to which his counsel replied that he would have to consult his client before he could give any answer.
In the similar case, the Supreme Court has already suspended National Assembly membership of Farahnaz Ispahani and the Senate Membership of Rehman Malik.
Today, as the hearing on the case concluded, the court issued notices to fourteen other lawmakers accused of holding dual nationality.
