Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik said on Wednesday that he, as advised by his lawyer, will file for damages worth Rs 3 billion against all TV anchors who had dragged his name into the Arsalan Iftikhar case and promised to quit
politics if found guilty.
“Today, I called my lawyer and am going to file for damages worth Rs3 billion against all anchors who took my name and for this, as advised by my lawyer, if any other action is required, I will take it,” said the adviser to the PM.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry started proceedings against his own son, Arsalan Ifthikhar, yesterday as he has been accused of receiving a bribe worth Rs 400 million by the real estate tycoon for the purpose
of having sway over some cases in the apex court of the country.
Before the hearing, Iftikhar told reporters he was innocent and that the Chief Justice had told him not to return home till the matter was settled by the apex court. Despite the fact that Malik Riaz is the key person in the case, he failed to make an appearance
before the Supreme Court yesterday. His aide told the bench that he was in Britain for medical treatment. The tycoon is facing a number of cases in the Supreme Court. These cases were filed by a number of persons who have accused Hussain of grabbing large
chunks of land and merging them into Bahria Town.
Zahid Hussain Bukhari has been making an appearance on behalf of Malik Riaz in front of the Supreme Court.
On the other hand, Malik Riaz has unleashed a series of allegations against Arslan Iftikhar as well as the Chief Justice. He alleged at the news conference yesterday that the Chief Justice was aware of the scam involving his son for six months but took no
action. He further alleged that the Chief Justice’s son, Arsalan Iftikhar, was running the judiciary like a "don". All the judges of the apex court gathered in the Chief Justice’s chamber this morning to discuss the tycoon’s allegations. Subsequently, Registrar
Faqir Hussain was directed to obtain the record of the news conference.
