Supreme Court takes suo motu notice of Malik Riaz presser
Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 2:55:17 by Faisal FarooqThe Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday took suo motu notice of Riaz Malik’s presser, in which he leveled serious allegations against the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and superior judiciary.
A three-judge bench headed by Justice Shakirullah Jan and comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Tariq Pervez will conduct hearing.
Earlier, the apex court sought the record of the press conference that property tycoon Malik Riaz held last day against the judiciary.
According to the media reports, an informal meeting of the Supreme Court judges took place with chief justice in the chair to discuss the present state of affairs. At least 12 judges of the apex court reportedly attended the meeting which lasted for nearly an hour.
Yesterday Malik Riaz appeared in SC in Arsalan Iftikhar suo moto case and after that he held a press conference in which he imposed serious allegation on Supreme Court and particularly Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
He opened a pandora box by quizzing Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on three counts during a press conference.
Riaz also alleged that he was blackmailed by CJ’s son Arsalan Iftikhar and did not pay any bribes. He described Arsalan Iftikhar as ‘don’, adding he was the one running the judiciary.
The participants according to the media reports discussed press conference of Riaz Malik and upshot of the Arsalan Iftikhar’ case. After consultation with fellow judges, the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry sought video reports of the press briefing.
The cases pending before the Supreme Court and the progress in terms of their proceedings were also came under discussion in the meeting.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry also summoned a four-court meeting on June 15 to decide a future course of action in the Arsalan Iftikhar’ case.
Apparently the agenda of the full-court meeting includes progress on rules of working committee, registration of advocates of record, fixation of case and future course of action in the chief justice’s son case.
It will also consider the present situation of the alleged corruption case involving Dr Arsalan Iftikhar and decide what way the apex court should adopt.
The meeting will also review the role of chief justice in the case after the allegations leveled by Malik Riaz.

Another suo motu? Oh man. There should be a limit on how may suo motu’s a judge can take per minute.
Did Chaudhary also ask for Arsalan’s financial records? No? Thought so. Why is Chaudhary still connected with matters regarding Malik Riaz? Isn’t it a clear conflict of interest?
