Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 4:54:19 by Usman KhalidSlim was very particular about the peculiar economic health of world currently. Europe and the US are living through the miseries of their own. The Mexican business tzar laid out a twofold solution to the current financial problems that many countries in Europe are facing.
He suggested that the governments should elevate the retirement age to 70 years and that older citizens, above 60 years should work 10 to 11 hours for three days a week, so that they can continue to churn their experience and knowledge in a productive way. This will enable them to bring innovation and inventions in the light of their experience.
Slim said that the current age of retirement at 60 is outdated. It was ruled in when the average age of humans used to be 60. Now that age has hiked up to 80 to 85 years, thanks to modern medical facilities. Moreover, in the past most of the work used to be manual. Now, computers and robotics have made almost everything automated.
As the conference was held in Geneva, Switzerland, the global financial health crisis could not be ignored, if at all. Slim also handed out a suggestion to the government to change their mode of businesses on a larger scale.
He suggested that the governments should privatize the basic infrastructures used for public services. This will allow the flow of money in the governments’ accounts from private companies. Private enterprises can hold a more strict quality standard and will invest in for profitability. On the other hand, governments with the extra cash can work on the betterment of the services they already are providing to the public.
Slim was confident in mentioning the example of China. Though the country runs on a basic nationalist mode of government, almost 40 million Chinese are escaping poverty every year, which is an achievement not only for a communist country but in the whole world.
