Mark Cavendish makes full use of his supreme form at the ZLM Toer and bagged an overall victory at the race.
The Manxman is enjoying perfect legs and is looking good for the Tour de France and the 2012 Olympic Games.
The cyclist has filled his bag with an overall victory at the Ster ZLM Toer GP after he overcame Lars Boom and Jurgen Roelandts after the final classifications.
He finished the four-day race in a cumulative time of 16 hours, 11 minutes and 55 seconds and achieved the top podium position.
Lars Boom fell 8 seconds short at the second position with Jurgen Roelandts and Juan Antonio Flecha finishing further six seconds behind at the third and the fourth positions.
Mark held the green jersey during the second and the third stages of the race and was delighted after securing the top overall position.
He noted, “I’ve been second a couple of times in the past but this is my first GC win and I’m really, really happy with it”.
“The calibre of some of the sprinters here is incredibly high and while I couldn’t quite get a win today it was about making sure I kept the yellow jersey. I’m really happy”.
Cavendish has now turned his sights towards the most prestigious cycling race of the year, the Tour de France.
He won the points classifications during the previous edition of the French Grand Tour and is now targeting the yellow jersey at the French race.
“It’s pretty much about relaxing now and really looking after myself these next two weeks”.
“You’ve got to start the Tour de France as fresh as possible – especially so this year with the Olympics so soon after”.
Marcel Kittel of Team Argos-Shimano is leading the point’s classification with a total number of 35 UCI points to his credit.
Mark Cavendish, Mark Renshaw, Andre Greipel and Kenny Robert Van Hummel hold the next four positions with 34, 34, 20 and 19 points respectively.
Tom Dumoulin, Raymond Kreder, Gijs Van Hoecke, Vinnie Braet and Jens Debusschere are the top five cyclists after the best young rider classifications.
Team Topsport Vlaanderen Mercator is holding the top spot after the final team’s classification at the 2012 Ster ZLM Toer Gp.
Team Lotto-Belisol, Team Katusha, Team Sky and Team Vacansoleil-DCM are holding the next four positions after the final team’s classifications.
