US-businessman Mansoor Ijaz claims he received death threats
Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 12:42:21 by Faisal FarooqPakistani-origin US business tycoon, Mansoor Ijaz, claimed that he received a threatening call from an unknown person after judicial commission declared Hussain Haqqani guilty in the infamous memogate scandal.
While interviewing to a local daily, the agitated US businessman said he took the matter seriously and will report the issues to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
According to his claims, the unknown called threatened him to destroy him and his family. He transcribed the threat, “You come one step towards London and we will find and kill you for what you have done. You should know we are out to get you”.
Mansoor Ijaz was the key protagonist of the inglorious memogate scam who was celebrating his court victory as his version of events with reference to Admiral Mike Mullen was vindicated by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
On Tuesday, the judicial commission constituted by the Supreme Court submitted its fact-finding report to the court.
It claimed that that former Pakistan’s ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani was not loyal to the country and had indeed written the memo to US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen, seeking their assistance against a possible military coup and a new security team.
The former envoy, however, had strongly his involvement to the controversial memo and posed questions over legality of the commission.
The US businessman, who is famous for many controversies, said he understood the reasons behind the death threat.
He, however, said he stood to his stance, ensuring that the reality was established in the interests of the country.
Mansoo Ijaz stated, “This relationship was dishonest at every level. Pakistan was acting as a client state of the US with Haqqani in Washington.”
In his view, the bilateral ties between the United States and Pakistan were more open due to the memogate controversy.
He argued, “These are not good times for the relations of the two countries but at least it’s an open and honest bi-lateral relationship. It has its problems but it’s honest and on clear footings where an ambassador does an ambassador’s job, not the president’s job”.
The US business tycoon was of the opinion that the people of Pakistan want their political government to be honest, saying it was best time for the government to consider what it has done to establish the rule of law and transparency in Pakistan.
