Apple MacBook Pro (2012) with Retina Display: Full Review – Part 4
Thursday, June 14th, 2012 4:21:22 by Usman KhalidThough the near future is expected to see Retina Display, or some other technology like it, in every electronic device with a screen but Apple has become the first one to introduce it to the masses. For now, Apple remains the market leader with the pinnacle of screen technology achieved.
Note that all the previous models of Pro and Air have also been upgraded to Ivy Bridge processors.
Performance
Most of the desktop replacements are huge, over-an-inch-thick notebooks that do not last more than 4 hours on DC charge, much less can be said for gaming laptops.
Despite having the thickest screen resolution and extremely thin structure, the new Pro with Retina Display stretches the normal use to a benchmarking 7 hours and 30 minutes.
Rigorous tests have proved that MacBook Pro with Retina Display churns out more power than any other laptop, including Pro’s last year models. The new Pro completed a standard multimedia multi-tasking in 97 seconds, while last year’s Pro completed the same task in 137 seconds. Top-end Origin EON17-S accomplished the same task in 295 seconds.
The new Pro finished the standard Adobe Photoshop CS5 Image Processing test in 119 seconds while, last year’s Pro and Origin finished the job in 194 and 129 seconds, respectively.
This shows that the new Pro 2012 has the brains and brawn to sustain its position in the ultra-competitive market.
Pro comes pre-installed with Mac OS X Lion, the latest operating system from Apple but it will get the upgrade to Mac OS X Mountain Lion when it is released in July. Mountain Lion will be available at Mac App Store in July for $19.99.
The new laptop is however, comes with new features like FaceTime chatting update and an early version of iMessage and Notifications. It connects seamlessly with iCloud over WiFi.
Bottom Line
Although the new MacBook Pro comes with a whole new package of high-end hardware under the single roof, all that comes on a premium price of $2199 for the base model. There are only two denominations in the new line of Pro, $2199 and $2799. Both are limited to 15.4-inch displays, however, there are hardware differences in stark contrast.
The price might become a hard sell for the new MacBook but professionals, who need a handy device that is feather-weight and packs a punch in performance, the new Pro is just the gadget they want.
The Retina Display is sure sell and many users will be forced to go beyond their budgets to upgrade to the new Pro. The light weight and slim design is just the icing on top of a well-articulated piece of electronic.
