Bollywood mourns Mehdi Hassan’s death!
Thursday, June 14th, 2012 11:40:34 by Imran Shaukat KhanLegendary Pakistani Ghazal singer, Mehdi Hassan, who was often referred to as Shahenshah-e-ghazal, passed away yesterday at the Agha Khan Hospital in Karachi after a twelve-year long battle with lung, chest and urinary ailments.
Though Mr Hassan was in a poor physical condition for the past twelve years, his death has left the world of music in sorrow. Music lovers around the world, including the stars of Bollywood industry have expressed their grief over the ‘immortal’ maestro.
From Shreya Ghoshal to Anupam Kher, they all mourn his death. However, they feel Mr Hassan will always live among the hearts of people because of their songs.
Shreya Ghoshal: Mehdi Hassan saab is no more. The voice, who made many music lovers and lovers find an expression of their hearts’ stories, is gone. R.I.P. Saddened beyond comprehension.
“Jagjit ji (Jagjit Singh), now Mehdi saab. The voices who kept the legacy of ghazals alive are gone… This void can never be filled ever again.”
Anupam Kher: Very saddened to hear about my favourite ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan’s demise. As a student I had gate-crashed into Pakistan Embassy to listen to him. RIP.
Kailash Kher: Another Legend (Mehdi Hassan) has gone from this world. Lagta hai ghazal ka suraj dukhon ke baadalon ne dhak diya (It seems the sun of ghazals is hiding behind clouds of sadness).

Born in 1927 in a village called Luna in Rajasthan, Indian, Mehdi Hassan, migrated to Pakistan at the age of 20. He started his singing career in 1957 and for almost 55 years he entertained the people all over the world with his mesmerising and heart-touching voice.
Mr Mehdi Hassan, who died at the age of 85, gave the music world many evergreen songs some of which include, ‘Zindagi main tu sab he pyar’, ‘Ab k hm bichray’, ‘Ranjish he sahi’, ‘Gulon main rang’ and ‘Main hosh main tha tu’.
