Both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after keeping mum over the Arsalan Iftikhar-Riaz Malik controversy have finally decided to standby the judiciary.

Although they kept mum ever since Dr. Arsalan Iftikhar scam made the headlines in the mainstream media, the two rival opposition parties have come out of the shadows and extended unflinching support to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and the superior judiciary.

Both Nawaz Sharif, the president of PML-N, and Imran Khan, the chairman of PTI, criticized the government for defaming the judiciary.

The PML-N leader took a jab at rival political parties for shielding their sons in charges of corruption against them, commending Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry for taking suo mout action against his son’s alleged financial corruption.

He vowed to second the judiciary saying, “The civil society, political parties and the entire nation will stand behind the judiciary which is facing conspiracies”.

He stated that the ruling lot was ready to go to any limit to safeguard their children involved in multi-million-rupee corruption while the chief justice has set an example for others by taking suo motu notice of allegations against his son, Dr Arsalan.

He noted, “The nation is well aware of the conspiracies being hatched to defame the judiciary. Political parties, the civil society and nation will not let such conspirators succeed”.

Later, Imran Khan, the man with brand-name of change, also extended his support to the judiciary, saying he would standby the apex court.

In a press note, the cricketer-turn-politician said conspiracies against the apex court were being hatched for the last few years, saying allegations against the country’s top judge were crafted by conspirators who wanted the status quo to persistence.

The former captain rejected the impression that he or his party received money from real estate tycoon Malik Riaz.

He clarified that he didn’t take even a single penny from the property tycoon, offering to take oath on the Holy Quran over the matter.
