Acer releases new A700 tablet with Retina-like display – Part 2
Saturday, June 16th, 2012 4:01:47 by Usman KhalidThe front has 10.1-inch touch sensitive screen that cramps up 2,304,000 pixels in a 1,920×1,200 resolution (16:10 ratio). With more than 2 million pixels, the screen is undoubtedly sharper than any another Android tablet in the market, let alone the Acer family. The text is sharp and very near-paper-like though it is not has clear and coherent as the new iPad. But something is better than nothing, especially in this case.
Movie watching should be a whole new experience in the new A700 but the final verdict can only be issued when the tablet goes on sale. The battery timing after the inclusion of the new screen is also subject to the availability of the device.
Right on the top of the screen in landscape is a 1-mega pixel camera with VGA quality video capturing capabilities. However, that is the extent of its use. On exactly the flip side sits a 5-mega pixel snapper that can capture video in 1080p full-HD resolution.
The left edge houses a power/sleep button and a 3.5mm headphones jack. The opposite side accommodates a micro-HDMI port and a door-covered micro-SD card slot that can hold up to 32 GB of flash memory. The bottom edge has micro-USB port of PC/Mac connectivity and charging. There is a reset pinhole right next to the port. Stereo speakers rest on either side of the bottom edge. There is a volume rocker, rotation lock button and a microphone pinhole on the top edge.
Hardware
The new A700 is not very different from the contemporary breed of top-end Android tablets. It has a quad-core Tegra 3 processor from NVIDIA just like A510 and Asus Transformer Pad, but unlike the Asus slate it is clocked at 1.3 GHz, the Transformer Pad has a 1.2 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor.
Supporting the processor is 1 GB of DDR2 RAM; Asus Transformer Pad has a 1 GB DDR3 RAM. It has 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 2.1, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, and GPS. Only one 32GB-capacity configuration is currently available.
